by Peter Bertochhyt

Would like to know more about aromatherapy? You're confused about exactly what aromatherapy is. So let's talk a little bit about the history of aromatherapy and how it can be used.

The term aromatherapy comes from around 1920. At that time a French chemist by the name of Maurice Gattefosse had a vat of lavender oil in his laboratory as he was studying the healing effects of essential oils. There was a fire in his laboratory.

Following the fire at the laboratory he had burns to his arm so he plunged his arm into the back of lavender oil and found immediate pain relief. He also found the burns healed very fast and without scars will stop

Other scientist followed up on the work of Maurice Gattefosse during world war 2 when many soldiers were burnt and also experienced all sorts of other life changing wounds. Research was done into the use of essential oils on burns and various other wounds.

In fact aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years under various names. It has always been the art of using various oils from plants and the scents that those oils produced for very pleasant and sometimes healing effects on people with health conditions.

However it is not true that aromatherapy "cure" any disease. However the use of aromatherapy is in helping disease sufferers cope with their various diseases and to improve their mental state. Whilst this is helpful in the overall treatment aromatherapy does not cure illnesses.

However it does seem that using the aromas from essential oils does have a wide range of psychological benefits and this does indeed help sufferers of a wide range of illnesses improve their condition by improving their ability to cope with the disease. Whilst aromatherapy cannot cure a disease it can elevate the mood, reduce psychological symptoms of fear and stress and pain and relax sufferers. All of this helps them deal with the illness.

And in some cases aromatherapy can also help reduce a sufferers dependence on prescription drugs such as painkillers, indigestion tablets and sleeping tablets.

Different people have different reactions to the scents from different plant oils. Many people actually utilize the principles of aromatherapy right now without even knowing it. Many, for example, fill out home with various oils and perfumes because they like the smell. They are using the principles of aromatherapy will stop

So perhaps you have a disease or illness that you are confronting and have been wondering about the role that aromatherapy may play. I won't deceive you by claiming that aromatherapy will be magic cure for your disease. However don't discount aromatherapy for that reason. It can do wonders for your mood and general psychological and mental state. Despite the fact that it is not a cure you can make a big difference in the overall outcome of your disease or illness.
